It’s Back To School Season
Phew! We are already in the middle of August... and that means... Back. To. School. The time is upon us and if my work as a therapist is any indication about the upcoming school year, kids and parents are really mixed about it this year.
We are coming off a full year of "normal school" following the pandemic. Kids are feeling the strain and so are we as parents. Here are some simple, yet effective, ways to make this transition easier for you and your kids:
Start adjusting your child’s schedule sooner than later: move bedtime up, reduce screen time, implement alarm and start adding more structure back into the day.
Trust your kid: ask them what would make the transition easier!
Lower the expectations: this transition is always tricky and that’s okay. It’s a big change for some kids and families and having expectations that can be met can make a difference in how well the transition goes.
